SEABROOK -- A Nevada-based resort company has bought Seabrook Greyhound Park, saying it hopes to transform the former dog track into the region’s premier entertainment and gaming destination.
Eureka Casino Resort, based in Mesquite, Nevada, announced Thursday that it bought the property, the owners of which have been seeking buyers the past several years. The park on Route 107 has been open since 1973 and had live greyhound racing until dog races were outlawed in 2008.
A spokeswoman for Eureka would not comment on the sale price. The 75-acre facility was appraised at $5,771,100, according to town records.
Eureka was named to Fortune Magazine’s “Top 10 Medium Workplaces in America in 2018.” Both its chairman and chief operating officer are from New Hampshire. Chief Operating Officer Andre Carrier, a Mount Washington Valley native, said the company began looking at expanding into his home state four years ago when lawmakers considered allowing casinos to open in the state.
Carrier said there are no plans to build new facilities or push for the state to allow a larger casino operation. He said Eureka will upgrade the park’s 90,000-square-foot facility, hoping to maximize the current model for off-track betting and charitable gaming while expanding the facility’s offerings for entertainment, food, beverage and general fun.
Construction work on improvements to the facility are expected to begin Feb. 4, and the facility will be open throughout the remodeling process, according to Eureka. The first phase of development is expected to be completed by August.
